Makaton
Makaton is a language programme that uses symbols, signs and speech to enable people to communicate, especially those with speech and language difficulties. Makaton supports spoken language development and can help aid understanding and reduce frustration.
Makaton helps people who experience the frustration of not being able to communicate effectively, it takes away the frustration and enables individuals to communicate and connect with those around them. Today over 100,000 children and adults use Makaton symbols and signs. It is widely used by children and adults with learning disabilities and those around them.

We have worked with Makaton to create 10 new signs and symbols for STEM concepts which were missing from the Makaton Library. These can be found in the individual videos on this page. These are designed as a practical introduction to get your lessons started.
