Do you care about science? Are you up for a new challenge?
Lightyear Foundation exists to promote science – to make it enjoyable and accessible to young people in developing countries. We don’t believe in learning by rote. We do believe that practical curiosity leads to people seeking better jobs and developing new skills, which leads to fewer people in poverty. We devise experiments using cheap, locally available materials to demonstrate scientific principles to students and teachers.
We have vacancies on our board of trustees. We’re looking for people to take us further, give a different perspective on what we do.
We want up to 3 people, particularly with skills and experience in:
Fundraising. People who can find individuals and organisations who will listen to our story and make it stand out in a world where needs are great and money is short.
Monitoring and evaluating. How do you prove the value of a scientific demonstration? We need to know. People we approach for funding need to know. We are continually seeking ways to improve our effectiveness, and that requires devising ever better ways of monitoring both the immediate and the lasting benefits of what we do
Working in a similar field. We are always looking for ways to work with organisations who think like us, where both sides can benefit from an exchange of ideas and experience – even work together on new and exciting projects.
Time commitment – up to you, but a minimum of one board meeting per quarter.
